One of the most important things you need to do after setting your goals is to properly write them down. Because writing has an incredible power of impact. Make a plan to do something you have the ability and strength to accomplish. And hang this plan somewhere you can easily see it during the day. Underneath it, write motivating sentences for yourself, like “I will succeed in this, hopefully. Another name for a miracle is hard work.” Rest assured, this written document will be very useful to you.
The Magical Power of Writing
A young university student who wants to be successful and happy goes to a professor who has written a book on this subject. He asks if the professor can teach him the ways to be successful and happy. The professor tells the student that he can help him with this and gives the following advice:
“-If you focus on your goal regarding a matter, your attention zeroes in on that goal and you reach the result. If you spend your life without setting goals, your life will be full of indecision and distress. Because then everything will be nothing more than a pastime and a distraction for you. Furthermore, you won’t find the strength to endure against various difficulties. If you don’t have a goal, the potential you possess means nothing. For example, the water of a stream without a dam flows away uselessly. If you want to be the master of your life, make a list of your goals. Put them on paper. You can even put them on paper graphically,” he says.
The young man listens to the professor and gives him the following answer:
“-Professor, what you are saying is very nice, but there is no point in writing my goals on paper. I have been thinking about these dreams for years.”
Despite the professor’s insistence, the young man refuses to put his goals on paper.
“-Alright,” says the professor, and takes the young man into the next room.
As the young man enters the next room, the door suddenly closes behind him. Sounds of rushing start to be heard from behind the room. Screams and shouts mix together. At first, the student cannot make sense of what is happening and doesn’t take what he hears very seriously. However, when he hears an announcement saying, “This building will explode in one minute,” he starts to panic. Meanwhile, he sees a text projected on the screen in front of him.
“This building will explode in one minute.”
Seeing this text, the young man completely panics and heads for the door. But the door is locked. He starts shouting and kicking the door. Meanwhile, a countdown has started on the screen: “59, 58, 57, …”
The young man is now in a state of utter panic. When the door doesn’t open, he runs toward the window, but there are iron bars on the windows. Meanwhile, the seconds are ticking backward, “30, 29, 28, …”. He heads for the door again, pounding on it with all his might and starts screaming at the top of his lungs. The time has dwindled down. “10, 9, 8, …” At that moment, the door opens and the author enters.
“-What happened, my child, what is this panic?” he asks.
“-Let’s escape from here immediately. This place is going to explode soon!” shouts the young man.
The professor, very calmly:
“-No, there is no such thing. Where did you get that from?” he asks the young man.
The young man bewilderedly points at the text on the computer screen.
“-But it was written right there.”
“-Is that so?” says the professor. “So, writing is this important. In that case, come on, let’s start writing down our goals.”
