The project is to add color to our Ramadan by visiting 29 different mosques in 29 days. I first had the chance to do this alone in 2018 as “30 mosques in 30 days.” I’ll pin the IG stories about that to my profile. You can check them here. Also, if we manage to realize this “29 mosques in 29 days” idea, I believe we’ll truly feel Ramadan and fulfill our acts of worship beautifully. But this year—God willing, as long as there are no health issues, etc.—I’m saying let’s pick 29 mosques and perform the prayers together at these 29 mosques. The point is to be together especially for tarawih. Of course, every mosque will be at a different distance. It may be hard to come to all of them, but I recommend joining as many as you can.
Then let’s say Bismillah and start our list.

In this period when we share everything useful or not, doing something like this feels more important to me than any post. Because most of the time we share things—or chase after them—that won’t benefit our afterlife. I think in such blessed months we should also make time to strive for things like this. Of course we should do them in the long term, not only in these months—living such a life throughout our entire lifetime makes a lot of sense—but for now, at least, let’s say Bismillah and try to achieve this goal.
And lastly, share it with everyone. Let everyone come. 😀
Süleymaniye Mosque

29 Sha’ban 1446
To prevent bugs and insects from entering the mosque, Mimar Sinan used ostrich eggs. Thanks to the ostrich egg placed right in the middle of the chandeliers, bugs and pests cannot enter the mosque.
- Tarawih is not khatm (non-complete recitation).
- Salām is given every 2 rak‘ahs.
Beyazıt Mosque

1 Ramadan 1446
Shortly after the construction of Beyazıt Mosque was completed, in 915 AH (1509 CE), an earthquake known as the “Little Doomsday,” which recurred from time to time over a period of forty-five days and devastated many buildings in Istanbul, caused some damage to the structure. Although the extent of this damage is unknown, a note in Künhü’l-ahbâr records that the dome had “come apart, broken into pieces.”
- Tarawih is not khatm.
- Salām is given every 4 rak‘ahs.
Zal Mahmut Paşa Mosque

2 Ramadan 1446
Evliya Çelebi says in the Seyahatname: “Among mosques, the most beautiful is Zal Paşa Mosque, which shines brilliantly in a garden like Iram. Among the vizier mosques in the Ottoman lands, none is more luminous than this. It is adorned with 366 crystal lamps… I have not seen the slender columns of its minbar, mihrab, and muezzin’s gallery anywhere except the minbar in Sinop Castle…”
- Tarawih is not khatm.
- Salām is given every 2 rak‘ahs.
Mihrimah Sultan Mosque

3 Ramadan 1446
A 16th-century work, Mihrimah Sultan Mosque bears the characteristic features of its era in terms of the use of stone and decorative elements. The küfeki stone used in the wall masonry, as in Mimar Sinan’s works, was preferred for structural use. In addition to Marmara marble, quality natural stones were also partly used in architectural elements for their decorative properties.
- Tarawih is khatm (complete recitation).
- Salām is given every 2 rak‘ahs.
Vâlide-i Cedid Mosque

4 Ramadan 1446
A large piece of the Kiswa (Kaaba covering) hanging on the wall to the left of the mihrab was recently stolen. The main entrance in the middle of the five-bay last congregation area is framed only by muqarnas friezes. The ta‘liq-inscribed poetic foundation inscription above the door, giving the start and end dates, was written by Osmanzâde Ahmed Tâib Efendi, in the hand of Fındıkzâde İbrâhim Efendi.
- Tarawih is not khatm.
- Salām is given every 2 rak‘ahs.

The interior of the Şehzade mausoleum is filled with colorful tiles. In the central sarcophagus lies Şehzade Mehmed; to his right Şehzade Cihangir, and to his left Hümaşah Sultan. After being destroyed in the 1766 earthquake, the mosque was repaired and took its present form in 1771.
- Tarawih is not khatm.
- Salām is given every 2 rak‘ahs.
Nuruosmaniye Mosque

7 Ramadan 1446
We can call this mosque a transitional work from classical architecture to Baroque. Moreover, the mosque holds (even uniquely) the distinction of being a first in many respects. Built in the Baroque style, it is entirely distinct from the classical style. Its semicircular courtyard in particular emphasizes this. With this characteristic, the mosque is the first major and important work of the new style in Ottoman architecture.
- Tarawih is not khatm.
- Salām is given every 4 rak‘ahs.
Sultanahmet Mosque

Sultan Ahmet Mosque is the only mosque in Turkey with six minarets. The minarets are pencil-shaped, with two balconies on the front minarets. In the West, due to its intense blue and white tiles, it is known as the Blue Mosque. In travel writings about Istanbul in foreign sources, you may see it referred to as the Blue Mosque.

Located in Tophane Square and built in 1581 by Mimar Sinan at the request of Kapudan Pasha Kılıç Ali Paşa, this mosque is said to have the following story: Kılıç Ali Paşa asked Sultan Murad III for land to build a mosque. The Sultan, as he was the Grand Admiral, told him to build it on the sea. So the Pasha made an agreement with Mimar Sinan and began constructing the mosque by piling stone, earth, and rubble along the Tophane quay. For this reason, Kılıç Ali Paşa Mosque is said to be the first mosque built over the sea.

The mosque takes its name from the (now-demolished in the 1950s) tomb of Laleli Baba, which used to be nearby. It is part of the Laleli Complex, the last complex built by the sultans.

In conclusion;

It turned out to be one of the best things I’ve done: 29 mosques in 29 days. I did something similar in 2018 as well, but I was doing it quietly on my own and choosing the mosques on the fly. This time I planned it and tried to announce it on social media as much as possible. Even though I couldn’t meet a lot of people in the mosques, I understood from your messages that some did join. We often leave an impact on people in matters that aren’t very beneficial—this time, inshaAllah, we’ve left an impact in something good. 😊
