Fargo

A few weeks ago, on Enes’s recommendation, I started watching a series called Fargo. But let me tell you, this show is a total psychopath series. Just a heads-up, I’m going to give a few minor spoilers in this article.

While some of the characters in the show are full-blown psychopaths, others are genuinely good people. But in this series, instead of the bad guys, it’s the good guys who end up dying. The show is based on true events that took place in the state of Minnesota, USA, back in 2006. The FX network reminds us of this at the beginning of every single episode. They also mention that out of respect for the dead, the real names of the people involved have been changed. Honestly, the fact that such events are actually real is incredibly terrifying. How can someone just take a life however they please? Who do you think you are to take a life given by God, my friend?

They kept the first season to 10 episodes, and I’ve only watched 7 so far. But even now, the protagonist is seriously pushing the boundaries of psychopathy. He completely ruined his own brother’s life. May God keep me far away from friendships with such people.

The show addressing a situation like this is actually quite risky. They put ideas into people’s minds that wouldn’t have even crossed them otherwise. Since it’s a TV series, viewers naturally feel a certain warmth or connection toward the protagonist simply because they see him on screen constantly. But in this series, having a bad guy as the main lead is harmful, in my opinion.

At one point, even I caught myself thinking, “I hope they just close the case so this guy can get away with it.” Then I snapped out of it and said to myself, “Wait, what is happening, Burak?”

Sometimes a person can get so absorbed in a show that they completely overlook whether the protagonist is good or bad, or doing right or wrong, and we just instinctively start rooting for them.

In short, if you have a personality that easily gets influenced by what you watch, don’t watch this show, my friend. If you’re going to watch it purely as a viewer because you’re curious about the plot, that’s up to you. But children under the age of 18 should absolutely not be allowed to watch it, because their perception and understanding of the unfolding events might be entirely different.

Ultimately, whether you watch it or not is your choice. It has a very different and unique premise. In this series, you will literally watch a pure, well-intentioned man transform into an absolute monster.

During my searches on YouTube, I found out that there is actually a 1996 movie version of this story. You can find the trailer below. While the original movie is 100 minutes long, the story has been expanded to 500 minutes with this series.
