How to Fix the “PHP Update Required” Error in WordPress

If you get the “PHP update required” error while installing or updating to WordPress 5.2, your PHP version is too old. The fix is to bump your PHP version from a section inside cPanel.

To do that, log into cPanel. (To reach cPanel, just append :2082 to your site address — for example https://burakbayram.net:2082/. Ask your hosting provider for the username and password.)

Once inside cPanel, type MultiPHP in the top search bar. Open the MultiPHP Manager tab that shows up.

On the right side of the MultiPHP page you’ll be asked to pick a version — choose PHP 7.0 (or whichever recent version your host supports). Don’t forget to pick which domain you’re applying this PHP version to from the section below. Finally, press Apply.

After that, when you visit your site you’ll be able to install WordPress 5.2 safely.
