And we’d reached day 4 of the internship. Wearing those blue t-shirts. Everyone was eating — one person on a simit, another on a poğaça, the rest sipping tea or coffee. Right before the 09:00 – 17:00 sessions, everyone was getting themselves ready for the day with those blue, mysteriously binary-coded t-shirts… and there I’ll wrap up the storytelling. Enough description — let’s get back to the actual post 😀
The day’s first session was with Vodafone Türkiye CEO Gökhan Öğüt. He told us how he made it to where he is today, what kinds of challenges he faced along the way. After that, he covered Vodafone’s investments in Türkiye and their student programs. From what I could see, he ended up being the Summer School speaker who fielded the most questions.
After a short break, Abdullah Altıntaş from Bilge Adam (MCT, MCSE(DP&BI) Team Lead) talked us through what a database administrator does and what their responsibilities cover. On top of that we covered the role and reasons for SQL Server indexes, SQL constraints, and the concept of validation.
After Abdullah Altıntaş’s session and another short break, Ali Batuhan Karaçoban from Bilge Adam walked us through an MS SQL Server 2014 installation, covering every step in great detail. Following Abdullah Altıntaş’s verbal and conceptual session, getting the hands-on installation from Ali Batuhan Karaçoban really tied things together nicely.
The day’s final speaker was Tofaş CIO Hakan Korkmaz. He talked about his school years, his university years, and the scholarship he earned thanks to his academic performance — which gave him enough income to put both himself and his sibling through school. He stressed that everyone should experience this kind of journey. In short, you have to work to succeed — that was my personal takeaway. And so we wrapped up another day. Knowing we’d be diving more into coding in the coming days, don’t forget to stay tuned.
