New manipulation project: Apple iHome. We stage an Apple-styled smart home concept in Photoshop. Part one covers the concept, scene setup, and perspective.
2026 note: This lesson was recorded on Photoshop CS6 in 2014. Adobe no longer sells the CS line — Photoshop now ships via Creative Cloud subscription. About 95% of the menus and shortcuts shown in the video still match the modern version; only the iconography is a bit fresher.
Concept
The idea: a smart home that feels like it extends from inside an iPhone/iPad screen — matte-white walls, dark accents, minimal furniture, one main natural light, the rest soft ambient.
This Part’s Steps
- New project at, e.g., 2560×1440 (great for screen).
- Drop in an Apple device mockup render. Use Apple’s official assets or grab a free Apple device kit from Figma Community.
- Lock in perspective with vanishing points. Try Filter > Vanishing Point.
- Add the wall background, subtle texture (Subtle Patterns).
- Pre-build layer groups: “Device”, “Room”, “Light”, “FX”.
