The other day, we sat down with friends and decided to watch a movie. We put it on and started watching. The name of the movie is The Philosophers (also known as After the Dark). The beginning of the film wasn’t particularly interesting, but it got amazing in the middle, only to finish at a terrible level toward the end. They could have come up with a much better ending. That being said, the script was actually really well-crafted.
At an international school in Jakarta, a brilliant but mysterious philosophy teacher challenges his twenty graduating senior students by putting them through a final thought experiment to complete their graduation requirements. The exam turns out to be the hardest they have ever faced. Using the power of logic alone, the students must determine who is valuable enough to enter an underground bunker and restart the human race in the event of a nuclear apocalypse. The bunker only has room for ten people, meaning the rest are left to face certain death.
Before starting the movie, my friends told me that its IMDb score was 5.1. By the time I reached the middle of the film, I thought people had underscored it. Turns out, you actually had to wait until the very end of the movie to make a proper judgment.
Just like Lost, they wrapped up the film with a completely far-fetched finale. Other than that, I’d still recommend giving it a watch. Just don’t go into it expecting an amazing conclusion. The ending isn’t interesting at all; they basically tied the plot up like one of our old cliché Turkish movies.
