To Curse or Not to Curse?

Cursing — back in the day, it was a chain of words people spat out when they got really angry and couldn’t hold themselves back. I have no idea what happened, but now people curse freely, openly, at everyone — passers-by, friends, even their closest ones. What can I say. If I say “cursing is a sin” or “it’s improper,” not a soul cares. I genuinely don’t understand this fascination with cursing. People now refuse to end a sentence without a curse. Friend, does cursing make you taller? Add air to your air? People who think they’re being cool by cursing are basically a popped tire leaking air without realizing it.

The bad part: even 8–9 year-old kids curse freely. To give you an example, on YouTube, 13 year-olds drop the kind of curses you wouldn’t even imagine, under videos.

There are plenty of people who curse to entertain others too. And of course little kids watch this and start thinking cursing is normal, swearing at their parents straight out of childhood.

Recently it’s gotten so blatantly normalized that a newspaper came out — everyone recognized the name as a shortened version of a regular curse word — and of course they couldn’t release it that way, so they tweaked the abbreviation into normal words and put it on the market, and people went and bought it. What can I say. May God grant everyone some sense.

Personally, even if it’s my closest friend, a curse coming out of their mouth feels off. I just can’t get used to it. And if I hear a girl curse, in my eyes she’s worth not zero but -100,000,000. She’s basically signed her own death sentence in that moment. Don’t tell me “oh she didn’t care about you anyway” — if she didn’t, she didn’t, her loss.

Cursing isn’t a good thing. There are times I really feel like cursing somebody out — especially when I hear news of martyrs — but I find taking refuge in God and asking for His help much more reasonable and proper. When you curse, all you’re left with is a mouth dirtied by ugly words.

One more thing: some of you might say I wrote this like I know better than everyone. True, there are things I don’t know. I just wanted to put my thoughts down. Take from it what you will — the important thing is to convince even one person that cursing isn’t a good thing.

Alright, enough writing. I’ll write again when something else comes to mind. Stay well, peace be with you…
